I just checked the Altavista free email said and it says the following:

Free web-based email accounts are available to AltaVista Free Access users at mail.altavista.com. AltaVista Free Access does not currently offer POP-based email accounts.

So the answer is you can't do it. It seems that all you can do is use a web interface to their mail.altavista.com service.

They do allow you to send messages out, but not receive them. You would set your SMTP server to email.1stup.com and you can send out from Outlook Express if you want.

POP is for reading mail. As I mentioned earlier, you can't do that with the free Altavista ISP.

STMP is for sending and that is supported. If you create a message, you should be able to send it from Outlook Express if you setup an account that has email.1stup.com as the SMTP server.

Let me know where you are having problems.
