How is it possible for me, over range of about 10 frames, to transform a solid rectangle or circle drawn in Flash into a letter. i.e., i want a solid black rectangle to transform into a letter E for example.

This is tricky thing but I badly want to know how to do it. An example of this can be found on the About screen of Flash. see the grey circle how they transform into words. I would like to be able to do something like that.

I am in a compeition with a friend of mine to make a cool Flash movie, so I would greatly appreicate if you could help teach me this trick.

Thanks very much.

This is one of my favorite effects, and it's called "Shape Tweening."

First, insert a keyframe at the first frame. Draw a rectangle with no border (select the blank box for the border color) and choose the fill style you want.

Now, ten frames down, insert another keyframe. Put the letter on the screen via the text box, then right click the text box and choose Break Apart. This converts the letter into a realtime vector graphic (same format as the rectangle).

Now we have to add the tweens.

In keyframe 1, go to Frame Properties and go to Tweening. Select Shape from the dropdown list (as opposed to Motion) and accept the defaults.

Do the same at keyframe 10.

Now run your movie and you have a cool looking morph!

And make sure there is no rectangle at keyframe 10.

Oops.. and rather than right clicking the text field, hit Control B to break it apart.
