Client search a Server

I have written a Client/Server Application, and now i would like to search the server(s) automatically. How can i do this ? I have tried to ping all computer in my subnet - but this take too much time.
I need a method to search all servers in very short time !

Try to broadcast a packet from the server over the net and let your clients respond to it.
