date and time

Myself Ganesh, I want to run a perticular tamplet on a perticular date on a perticular time automatically.how can i do this?
Suppose on 14th of every month at 5:30 P.M. it is needed to send a message to every person who's mail address is stored in a database and this should happen autoamtically means cold fusion server should recognise the date and time itself and send the mails.

Well there are several questions you have to ask yourself.

1. Do you host your site or Do you have access to the machine coldfusion is on to setup Scheduling?

2. If not is your site very busy. So that you could test for the date and time?

3. If not then Can you make sure you have a browser open and connected to the net to browse the page while it refreshes?

Of course I would use cfmail.

There is a ColdFusion Scheduler and a NT Scheduler so it depends on if you own the SERVER or not.

EX:  If not then you can not make the decision without your hosting company to allow NT Scheduler or ColdFusion Scheduler to run.

Actually, here's how you can do this.

To have a template run at certain times and/or on certain days, you can...

use the CF administrator scheduler function to have the template run at the time(s) you specify.  When the scheduled event is run the server logs when the process starts and stops and if any errors are generated.

If you don't have access to the CF administrator functions, then use a <CFSCHEDULE> tag in the template....CFSCHEDULE "registers" the event with the server in much the same way events get registered by a CF admin.

The only problem would be if you go through a ISP that restricts use of the CF administrator or <CFSCHEDULE> tag.  If that is the case, request an exception.
