Disabling a toolbar button is not working for my Dialog based app

I have developed a dialog based MFC application having some toolbar buttons.
Disabling a toolbar button is not working for my Dialog based app.
 I added a message handler function (for UPDATE_COMMAND_UI) for the toolbar button.But it is not functioning.Why?

Use pCmdUI->Enable(FALSE) in your message handler function(for UPDATE_COMMAND_UI)
