Floppy drive light always on

I want to reformat a computer but the light on my floppy drive is always on the minute I turn on the power.  Any idea what's causing this and what I can do to fix it?

the floppy cable is backwards, open the case and reverse how it's connected to the floppy

I can't because some of the holes are blocked off..it will only go on one way so I tried using another cable and the light is still on.
