Do a search for any *.dbx files. This is how outlook express stores your information. If you find a bunch of these files still on your machine, your mail still exists. Most likely they're in an "outlook express" folder somewhere on your drive. Go into OE.5 and select Tools->Options->Maintenance Tab->Store Folder button. Select "change," and then point outlook to the folders where you found your old mail.

It's also possible the the new OE created a default set of .dbx files. You'll want to select the larger set of files, since those are most likely your old mail.

Hope this works for you.
