Try this

1. Uninstall the scanner and all of it's software then reboot windows hit ctrl, alt, delete and end task everything except for explorer and systray then reinstall the scanner

2. If that did not work then go to start settings printers right click on the printer select properties and then go to the details tab click on spool or spool settings then select to print directly to the printer raw for the data format and select to disable bi-directional communication.

3. If that did not work then go to start shutdown restart in msdos mode
at the c:\windows prompt type cd.. and hit enter then type cd temp it will now say either it doesn;t exist or you will be in c:\temp if you are in c:\temp then type del *.tmp and hit enter
once you are done with that or there was no temp directory type cd windows then type cd temp it should now say
c:\windows\temp type del *.tmp and hit enter then type exit to go back into windows

4. Go into your bios and check your parallel port mode make sure it is set for ECP also disable power mangement in the bios

5. Disable your anti virus software see if that makes any difference

if none of this works then please provide what version of windows also the amount of ram you have and your free hard drive space

briancassin,Uinstalled the scanner and all of it's software, then rebooted system. Hit ctrl, alt, delete and removed all programs that are running.Reinstalled the scanner and folled directions. It worked fine for me,but I think that my wife is using a program that effects some other programs.I will check this area out.By the way, her systems resources are at 85%....thanks
