DeskScan II offers more options for adjusting an image before saving it...like adjusting midtones, highlight and shadows, color adjustments...etc, however, after making any adjustments you desire, it requires you to save the scanned image to a file before doing anything with it except sending it to the printer and it doesn't have the ability to save in jpg, gif, png or wmf format like PrecisionScan does. PrecisionScan is more of a point and click software disigned to take a lot of the user decisions in DeskScan and make them automatic. PrecisionScan also has Scan to destinations that lets you decide where you want the scanned image to go and then automatically opens that program and puts your scanned image in it.

If the scan is initiated from within an application program, such a Corel Draw, it does appear that the scanned image is directly returned to the application from both DeskScan II and PrecisionScan. I guess the additional attempted 'intelligence' accounts for the increased size of the PrecisionScan. Thanks for your insight.

Twain is the technology used to scan an image from an application such as Corel Draw. You are correct in that both the DeskScan and the PrecisionScan are twain compliant. Using PrecisionScan, a scanned image may be sent directly to an application from the scanning software using MAPI instead of using twain. It has a Scan To box that list all the applications on your system that were found during installation that are MAPI compliant.
