File and Printing Sharing & W2K

Hello

At work we have printer and file sharing networking - Win98.

Should we upgrade to W2k or is it only for NT users?

Thank you

Hi Randi,

If you should upgrade is depending on your needs then it comes to restricting the use of the printer or if the queload on the Windows 98 machine is heavy.

Things you can do which is not able to do in Windows 98:

   1. Add, modify, and remove printers right from the printers folder.

   2. Set up multiple printers for one physical device, or vice versa. This enables you to set diffrent schedules, priorities, and permissions for the device.

   3. The you install a printer you can choose to installe multiple drivers so people having diffrent OS on theire computers can use it.

   4. You can set up special timeschedules in which the printer is avaliable for diffrent departments.

   5. You can open a window displaying jobs being printed or jobs in queue waiting to be printed.

   6. Rearrange the order of the print queue and deleted print jobs.

The choice is ofcourse yours but switching to Windows 2000 is NOT a bad deal. But look at your needs first of all and after that make your choice.
