Unable to Run Scan Disk

I have tried to run scan disk several times.  The first two times, it only completed about 1/3 of the way through and it locked up.  I had to shut down my
computer.  Now when I try to run it, it
won't even start the scan, but just locks up. When I type control/alt/
delete, it says scan disk is not responding and when I click on end task,
my computer hangs again.  Any help will
be appreciated.

Do you have an Handheld PC (H/PC) or Palm-size PC (P/PC)  connected to the computer.

Unplug if so,  and if you have Norton Utilities, it could also give you problem.
Boot your system in SAFE MODE, run scandisk with the thorough option. finish and reboot
I recently had that exact problem. I found it had a conflict problem.

I went to the last 3 or 4 programs I downloaded and I deleted them.

It SHOULD Not have made any difference but for me it did.

also, the system could be overheating.

I got off my box for 2 hours.  Then for good measure, stayed off
another 2.

when I got back on, I went to the thorought scan disk and
followed up with a de-frag.

I also suggest you run, if you haven't, a virus remover; a virus
maker can ---- up anything!

I bet your scan disk runs smooth soon after this!

This was the most thorough answer I received and I am going to work on it
as soon as I stay off my box for a few
hours or more ;-)   Thanks
