You need to reference the updated frame with target="frame name"... This will do whatever you want to that frame

yeah i figured that out, do i need to use java script to make sure it loads correctly?

for example something like:

if(top.location==self.location){
top.location.href="frameset name.html"
}

and what is ment by "frameset name.html"?

scooter1,
the code you pasted above will make sure that the user is viewing the page inside the frame (as opposed to by itself).  "framesetname.html" is presumably the page that contains your <FRAMESET> and <FRAME> tags.  However, I don't see the relationship between this and your question.

You can accomplish your goal with javascript, or as yolish pointed out, with a target attribute.  Here is both ways:

js:
<A href='#' onClick='top.nameOfThe80pctFrame.location="newurl.htm";return(false);'>Click Me!</a>

<A href="newurl.htm" target="nameOfThe80pctFrame">Click Me</a>
