Why can't I paste this HTML code?

Hi
I'm an HTML novice building a few pages with Netscape Composer. I have created a couple of HTML inserts – a counter box and a search engine link – but I'm having trouble with the Amazon associate's tag.
      The code which they supply – and I've tried several versions of it – runs like this:
<A
                               HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/thecharitylink">
                               <IMG SRC="Button120x90.gif" BORDER="0"
                               alt="In Association with Amazon.com"></A>

But when I paste it into the HTML space and hit OK, I get this message:
"You need to enclose HTML tags in angle brackets: <TAG>"
Are there brackets missing? How can I fix this?
I'm running a PowerMac 200Mhz and OS7.6.1
Thanks
Chris

Sorry to seem stupid, Cabrio ...
but I just took out all the  spaces in the code and I'm still getting the same message.
Can you help?
Thanks
Chris
1) Did you try with text editor?
2) If you cant do this post the source and i will repair it.
3) Find some other program for html editing. I work on MS OS... I dont know if Dreamweaver is available for mac if it is try it. NS composer sucks big time... :(
Hi
Hi
Thanks for so many helpful suggestions.
I fixed the problem by following your instructions for an alternative method, in your first answer.
It worked fine! Which is more than I can say for Composer – yes, I will have to test out DreamWeaver.
Check out the results at www.thecharitylink.com
Thanks
Chris
Your are welcome.
