Outlook Message Recall

OK silly question for the day, I have a user who sent a message to 4 users, she then did the recall function from each person she got a successfull recall, followed by a recall failed message.  
None of them had read the message yet, and the message was removed from there inbox.
So the question is WHY, WHY, WHY

Hi,
I faced the exact situation as u faced
In OL,the message is considered to be "read" even if it is not opened by double-click..>IF u can highlight that mail for more than 5 seconds in the preview mode.
