I use AtGuard Firewall.  There are a number of Firewall products around.  Check out the Mcafee site, I had a notice recently that they have upgraded their personal Firewall.  You will find a downloadable version at their site.  You can configure the firewall to block nukes, scans and unauthorised connections.

I'd suggest changing that proposed answer to a comment bratan.  If you only rely on that from protection, I can guarantee that you will soon find out that it is not enough.

For a start all the latest security and update patches for the OS would need to be installed.  Just updating the winsock will not afford any protection at all.
