Cannot change display adapter resolution or color depth.

I just installed an HP6300C scanner and software.  The scanner is connected via SCSI.  All works on the scanner end.  Then after returning to run other Windows (98 SE) applications, I can no longer change the display resolution (nor can software, like games) or color depth - I get an error that says check display device in the device manager (looks normal there).  I tried reinstalling the display drivers, but it's still stuck in  one resolution (1280x1024x32).  How can I fix this?  Reinstall W98SE is my next guess?

go into device manager and remove yopur video card reboot lets windows redetect it then go into control panel display then settings tab then click on advanced and go to the adapter tab next to the picture of the chipboard is the name of your adapter look for an update on the web for your video card.

also if this happened after installing the scanner then uninstall it (if you have norton antri virus then go into it and turn off auto protect) then reboot once in windows hit ctrl, alt, delete and end task everything except explorer and systray then reinstall the scanner

If you installed the Adobe Photodeluxe, try uninstalling either Adobe Type Manager - ATM - or the whole program.  ATM has been know to conflict with some video cards.  If uninstalling work, you can reinstall Photodeluxe and when prompted to install ATM, select Cancel and it will leave that part out of the install.

I've actually solved the problem myself - It turns out to have been unrelated to the scanner installation.  I had later that day changed MS Netmeeting to load when windows starts.  With NetMeeting running in the system tray, I was unable to change display resolution or bit depth ( and neither can programs).  I solved it by unchecking all startup items in MSCONFIG and finally pinpointing it to NetMeeting.
