G3, HP4M, Ethernet and Chooser

I have a user running a G3 os 8.1 with an ethernet connection and a local HP4M.  When switching from Ethernet to Printer in Control Panel to use the printer rather than the NT network she has to completely shut down (not just restart) in order to be able to print anything.

Makes perfect sense

RTFM kind of stuff huh?
Nah just a matter of time priorities. It would be nice to know exactly what is screwed up in the system but that means spending an indordinate ammount of time digging. Sometimes its just more practical to wipe and start from scratch. Especially since its a mac and a system reinstall is cake. Not a solution i would recommend for windows..heh
True  - I spent 8 hours upgrading a fairly "clean" PC the other day form 95
to 98.  Two re-installs later it finally "took". client was mad as hell

I'll re-install MAC OS and get new printer drivers

Thanks
