I want to use Frontpage 2000 to edit the websites we are hosting we have been using FP98 and the FP98 server extensions but just recently we installed FP2000 and server extensions.

Correct me if I am wrong but to edit a web page now - I need to add a web folder using explorer first?

I have tried this several times without any joy.

Can anyone shed some light ont this please.

TIA.

UNder My Computer you should have an icon called Web Folders. Open this up and double click on Add a Web Folder.

Type in the full url of the web site you want to edit directly on the server. This only works for sites that have FrontPage Extensions installed and running. Follow the instructions on screen and hit Next once the full url has been entered. You may be prompted for your authoring id and password from theserver dependng how security is set-up for your site. Hit finish once complete.

Repeat this for each site you want to edit or if you have a root web site contaning several sub-webs, simply do this for the root web.

To edit your site, launch FrontPage 2000, choose Open Web from the File menu, choose Web Folders from the list of areas on the left of the window, click once on the site you wish to edit, click on the Open button to access the site. If you want to access a sub web under a root web, double click the root web icon and find the site to edit, slect it and click on Open.

FP 200o will work with the older server extensions but not all features will be available.

I know I liked FP 98 better for this feature.

Good luck with your site!

Sorry to reject your answer but the problem I am having is that when I try to add my site using the web folder wizard - I keep getting an error message telling me to look in c:windows\temp\wecerr.log
I have re-installed frontpage server extensions twice now.
The event log shows the following error message on the server:
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC'.  The error was '80040154'.

Sound's like the server extentions on the web server are not running properly. Do you have administrator access to the server? If so check out the Management console to see if everything is running OK or have your admin person do this. Try restarting the web service in question. You may have to reboot the server to get the new extensions to run properly.

What happens if you key in the url in the Folder Name box under Open Web without first using the Web Folder wizard?

Understanding Web Applications

Without even knowing it, most of us are using web applications on a daily basis. Gmail and Yahoo email, Twitter, Facebook, and eBay are used by most of us daily—and they are web applications. We often confuse these web applications tools for websites.  So, what is the difference?

Smae error message again. I might have to build a new web server and transfer all our webs over to it (8 or 9!)

As a last resort, try posting the question to Microsoft:
