FrontPage2K/NetScape

I've created a web page in FP2K.  Some of my pages have bookmarks and title links on the same page that are hyperlinked to the bookmarks.  When viewed in Netscape some pages work fine, some don't.  What's up with that?

More about what happens when it doesn't work.  Ok.  The page has a hyperlink at the top to bookmarked text on the lower portion of the page.  This particular page has the links at the top in a table with 2 columns.  (That's the only difference I can see between that page and one that works fine, but when I removed the table the problem remained.)  When the page is viewed in NetScape if you click on the hyperlinked titles you end up at the bottom of the page instead of at the appropriate bookmark.  Of course, it works fine in IE5.

Got any hints about how I can fix this and avoid these problems in the future.  My site is an informational intranet site or I'd send you a link.  If needed I can email the pages.  Let me know.  Thanks.  Lisa

Have you tried www.netmechanic.com to let it do a free check of your link and report browser compatibility issues?  Sometimes I've found this helpful.  Many of my creations have worked well in IE but not supported within Netscape; css and others.

Thanks for the web site info but my 400 page web site is on a secure intranet, it won't help for this site.

New data....it appears that if your bookmarks (anchors) have spaces in them then NetScape can't handle it.  I'm going to test out this theory right now.

Great, read that as well.  Huge site, must keep you zipping along (so to speak).

You can, BTW, limit the free query to any one problem page ... don't have to run the whole site.

astaec,
Thanks.  Yes, I stay busy and the problems with staying on top of NetScape and IE are such a pain.  I will check out that site checker.  By the way where did you read that info?

It appears that special characters are also a no, no (punctuation) are allowed in bookmarks either.  Thankfully it is working now, except one thing...

Let's see if this makes since:  When the hyperlink goes to the bookmarked spot on the page the text is just up from the viewable portion of the page.  You actually must move the scroll bar down one line down in order to see that first line where the bookmark is where you intended to be.  Ever seen that before? Can it be fixed?   lc

I read that as a result of a run as well at www.netmechanics.com when I analyzed the details on the browser compatibility piece.  Recall reading it as well in the MS KB, but don't recall the source.

Thank you.

Perhaps you'll also find some tips here, I have (the shortcut keys help expedite processes).

I've still been trying to recover the link that had the details on "no nos" regarding browser compatibility issues, no luck yet; but then my primary system with all my Favorites is in bits and pieces.
