HP ScanJet 4s

I'm attempting to run HP ScanJet 4s
(Windows 98 with HP Pavilion 6370Z)
for the first time (with PaperPort software); The scanner is not listed within the Printers Dialog box as a hardware installation option, nor is the driver, even though I have downloaded it; Also, it is not possible to type in its name anywhere.
Paperport says I have installed it properly, yet I receive this message when I try to open the Paperport program:  "Cannot find MAXRAST.DLL
Windows needs this file to run
C;\Paprport\PAPRPORT.EXE"
I can even get printer dialog box to say that I am printing, yet no response from scanner.  Any ideas?
I've re-loaded software many times;
Thanks, Jeff Knight  JKnightARC@aol.com

you can try7 this way on uninstalling the scanner software and paperport and reinstalling

1st off uninstall the scanner then (if you have norton anti virus go into it and disable the auto protect mode) then reboot windows once back in windows hit ctrl,alt,delete and end task everything except for explorer and systray then reinstall the scanner and it's software

if that did not work see this article from HP
