150 points here for Pub2000 to Front Page

https://www.experts-exchange.com/jsp/qShow.jsp?ta=win98&qid=10312626

Unclear where to post so in the W98 area.

Ultimately, want to move to FP2000 for further tweaking and graphics, etc.

The best COMMENT = points X 4 = A.

Thanks.

If I understand well, you want use Frontpage after having used Publisher.

This are my opinions and considerations about it (i use intensively both programs)

FrontPAge i web dedicated, so it certainly more indicated for web publishing than Publisher. Publisher is general oriented, but is good for brochures, visit cards and so on... Yes, you can export to html, but if you want to have the best control to your html code, i reccomend FrontPage.

FrontPage pherhaps is not the best authoring tool available, because it use some features (Frontpage extension) wich are not always supported (on not-NT based web sites).

This is an important issue you must know, because the risk is that you cannot publish your work. Aniway, you can avoid this problem with some triks, disabling proprietary web extension support typical of Microsoft Internet Explorer (like ActiveX), and the same Frontpage extension are needed only for some particular plugins (like frontpage themes, which i reccomend you TO NEVER USE) you can insert in your site.

It's diffiult here to give you an abstract of all the tips & tricks, but i use without problems web site developed on FrontPage on sites wich doesn't support Frontpage extensions...

More, FrontPage has a good dynamic link managing and the so called "shared borders" wich are a very interessant issue. In short words, you can set top, bottom, left and/or right "shared areas" which becomes common to all web site, and Frontpages take cares from itself to keep update correctly of link between pages, also for nested directories (you do not have to take care of where you put you page in the web and to maintain updated for every page.. FP take track of it; you set up once the link, and forever)

Another interessant feature is the managing and showing of link structures of the web, and the dynamic ability to move a page from one relative position to another (but this feature can require extension actived).

More other feature are available, like previewing, css1 & 2 support, right-pointer control over page component, and so on.

If you have or not a web site supporting FP extension, i consider FP a good tool for developing, if appropriately configured.

Good alternative tools to FP are HotMail and DreamWeaver, with different feature and both WEB only oriented. There's not the best tool in absolute. It depends much on your "taste" and your preference (the costs of purchase are similar).

All three tools include web publishing wizard.

Surely, Publisher is not indicated for web developing. It can export in html format (like Excel and Word), but the result are always too heavy (in KB), because Microsoft programs try to maintain page formatting, so they introduce in the page so much code that it's sometimes not-HTML 4.0 compliant
(this Microsoft's Suite Tools are output oriented, not content oriented as required from HTML specification).

Thank you for this wealth of information, I appreciate it.  I've also used all these Office programs extensively.  I was really intending this Q to link to the main Question where the points sit and where I'm trying to develop a web-based form within Publisher 2000 (for my daughter) that is very specific with specific goals.  Ultimately, I'll either convert what I can to FP2K for further modifications, or recreate totally in FP2K.  Unsure at this point.

Do want to get the form though, that's the rush; and have too many deadlines at once, that's why I posted this pointer to the Question with all the specifics.

Thanks a bunch, though.

With all your kindly given information, I feel like I should at least pay something here, but am very, very low on points.

Sorry to REJECT the answer, but did wish to leave this pointer open to get input on the main Q.  Thank you again.
