HP ScanJet 4s won't work under Windows 98

Has anyone dealt with this very specific problem?

I have a Hewlett Packard ScanJet 4s B&W scanner.  This scanner has a very small footprint and is designed to fit in the space between your keyboard and monitor.

HP's web site has Tech Support on this.  All it says is to go to www.visioneer.com and I guess you download some software.  Well, I downloaded the software but all it is is a Viewer for scanned images.  What I need are Windows 98 compatible drivers for the ScanJet 4s.  Where can I get them?  Where are they hiding on Visioneer's web page?

It sounds like the HP scanjet is just a rebranded Visioneer PaperPort. I found the drivers at http://www.visioneer.com/customer/updatesoft/grayscal.html

How sure are you about this?  I would prefer not to spend the time downloading the software and installing it.

Because it says so on the drivers page. "Windows ix, mx, vx, and HP4s with PaperPort 4.x or higher" The ix, mx, and vx are all visioneer products. The HP4s is listed as using the same software.

Now I have a new problem though:

I cannot get to the page pointed to.

Are you able to get the link to work?

The link does work for me. There is perhaps a server down between you and it. I would wait a few hours and try again. They do seem to be having server problems as its asking for a login and password to download the free drivers. If the problem persists you can contact them at:

I was able to get the driver through a drivers web page.  Let me install it and see if that does the trick.

Alternatively, I might need the other driver offered:

pportdrv.exe

But all links refer back to the visioneer ftp site, which will not work on my machine.

Theres not much i can do about their site. Its still asking me for a login and password for either file. Those are the drivers that HP referred to but as far as downloading them theres not much i can do for you.
