How can we make a search engine to search local web information using frontpage??  Do we need to write any program??  Or frontpage has the built-in search engine function?  If not, what language do we need??

Thanks

gorexy,
Yes, FP does have it's own built-in search function.  You have to insert a form and then use it's advanced properties to edit how it searches.

Correct, Frontpage has a built-in search function. But you can run this only if your web server account has the frontpage extensions installed. Otherwise this will not work with the Frontpage search webbot.

You will also see that there are no configuration options for the frontpage search. The reason why I dumped this: You can not exclude directories from your search. For example if you have a private area or differnt language versions of your pages the search will find ALL pages which is not handy at all.

A little bit of work to install, but the cgi search scripts have a lot more configuration options. (Your web account must have a free cgi-bin directory for installing scripts).
You may take a look at http://www.xav.com/ for a search engine that I use on my site. There is an option for automatc install...

Good luck, Philipp

Good answers.  Can I have any source script from you in order to let me taste the search engine?

Thanks

Hello Gorexy,

thanks for giving me my first "expert points" There are masses of search scripts available on the net. Yes, you can download one of them (the source) with the address I gave you. You can even do a demo search. This one has the following features: It does not do an online search, but indexes all your pages upon your command. Keywords are then stored in a file and when your customers search only the keyword-file has to be searched, that is faster. It has a very comfortable admin screen too.
Not familiar with cgi scripts. Then look at http://www.bignosebird.com/cgi.shtml for hints on using scripts.

If you have any more questions, write a comment.
