I got a used DVD rom drive and I have it working reading CD roms, but I don't know how to get it to play DVDs.  I tried one dvd and it didn't work. It read from the special pc enhanced section and installed some software, but it couldn't pay the movie.

This is a Hitachi made for IBM (2X).  Is there some special software/driver I need?  I've been having a heck of a time finding any....

AMD K62 333 Mhz  (runnig at 350)
64 Mb SD RAM
ImageAccel 4 video card. It's an 8 Mb card. Fixed frequency 70 Hz monitor. No graphics accelerator and because of the fixed freq, I'm not sure if any will work on this monitor.

OK.

In my opinion, without graphics accelerator, you need a hardware MPEG decoder. DVD player need CPU/graphic  power ...

Did you find something with my link ? ...
