Hi,
First let me tell that I have come from win98 with no NT experience so sorry if my questions are weard :)

1)Where can I get (or what can I use) a winpopup like in win2000. I know net send ... from dos prompt but i do not like it.
2)Is there anyway to make all the net connections available on startup? That is I have many computers near me (by ethernet) but everytime I want to connect to one the dialog with user and password pops up. Can this be like win98?
3)How can I reserve hardware resources in win200? I have on old ISA card in IRQ5. In win98 i have reserved irq5 and what about win2000?

Since I have made 3 questions I will be generous

Sorry about my "English" and my thanks in advance

1) There is no MS GUI to the NetSend command.  There are, however, many shareware and freeware utilities.  I would look at www.winfiles.com, more specifically, http://winfiles.cnet.com/apps/nt/comms-misc.html

2) If you were using a domain environment, this wouldn't be an issue (if you logged in to the domain.  Otherwise, make sure you are using the same user account and password that exists on the other computers.

3)  Win2K is plug-and-pray, which means in theory, it finds all the hardware and sets IRQs accordingly.  If your ISA card is not supported by Windows 2000, you'll never be able to use it unless you write a driver yourself.  2000 handles system resources differently from 98 and 95.  Just because it worked under 9x, doesn't mean it will under 2000 - 2000's stability comes, in large part, through MUCH stricter control over what resources are used by what system components and software.

thanks,
1)I have found nice utilities.
2)In the initial setup I only got the net working by saying that I am in a Workgroup and not in a domain! This is strange because in win98 Í was connected to a domain(at least that was what appears in the logon dialog box)
Maybe is because of this?
The user and password requested are the password that i enter in the beggining.

3)plug and pray OK. :)
So there is no reserved resources dialog in win2000!?

The machine must be entered into the domain by an administrator of the domain, otherwise, you'll probably have the username/password prompt everytime.

I have to look over my win2k material, but I don't think so.  Again, what good is reserving the IRQ if you don't have a driver that works with the device?

just one more thing.

First I do have the driver. It was made for NT and is working. I have installed and win2k has changed my sound device from IRQ5 to IRQ7. Smart guy but I really do not trust much so I was wonder if could not do it manual like win98.

Second, I have to contact my domain administrator?
Let me tell you that my machine (user and password) already exists before installing win2k. That is I was working in win98 and I have done the upgrade. In the setup I can choose between workgroup and domain but only workgroup works. Why? I do not know the difference between domain and workgroup in win2k. By setup I mean the dialog "Identification changes". Maybe I have to change something in the dialog that pops up when I press more : "DNS suffix and NetBIOS Computer Name"
