Is it possible to set up Paint so that it save files in 256 colours rather than 24 bit by default? I am using Win 95 V2.

Rem16 is correct in stating that you would have to choose the 'Save as Type' IF you are running in a color resolution otherthan the color resolution you want to save.

Lets say you are running True Color...
Paint will automaticly save in True Color.

Lets say you are running 256 Colors...
Paint will automaticly save in 256 Colors.

Etc.

As with most things Microsoft creates, Paint is not very user friendly.  In setting paint up they assumed they knew what was best for everyone.  "Why in the world would anyone want to change what we think is best for them?"  To my knowledge, you cannot change the defaults in paint without rewriting the program.  The only way I know to save something in 256 colors in Paint is to choose: FILE, SAVE AS, and then click the down arrow in the "Save as type" window and choose "256 color bitmap."

gomadman - "Rem16 is correct" Since you've only added some additional information, your response should have been a comment.  It's not kosher to use someone else's comment, add something to it and make that a proposed answer.  You can change your answer to a comment by bringing up the question page again.  I learned this protocal the same way you are now learning it.  Unless you have the absolute and total answer, you only post a comment.  If only comments are posted and the person asking the question feels it has been answered to her/his satisfaction then s/he can decide to give the points to one commentator or distribute them to several people who commented.  You should reenter and change your answer to a comment.
