Are you using the original s/ware???
Hello Cmdmstrc2,
The original software that came with the 4p scanner will not work with Windows 98.
Make sure you have deskscan 2.8.

good try on the software. the original software will work on win98(Hp Picturescan 2.2). Could not get it to work after upgrading to athlon and FIC board.
d/l deskscan 2.8 and tried it also with the same results.

Does the card show up in the Device Manager? If so please post status including the error code number.
ASKER
the card does show up in device manager with an error code 10. this device is either not present, not working properly or does not have all of the drivers installed. also, no resources assigned and no conflicts.
Sounds like your card maybe no good. Maybe try another card if you can hold of one. Any ASPIcam compliant card should do.

Hello Rat,
thanks for the suggestion about the scsi card connection. every time i screwed the card down, the front end was unseating just enough to lose the connection. sometimes hard to remember to check all the basics.
also, as a qualifier, hp picturescan 2.2 will and is running on windows 98 on my machine at this moment. i am running win98 2nd edition. this is not an upgrade version.
