Hello Cmdmstrc2,

The original software that came with the 4p scanner will not work with Windows 98.

Make sure you have deskscan 2.8.

good try on the software. the original software will  work on win98(Hp Picturescan 2.2). Could not get it to work after upgrading to athlon and FIC board.
d/l deskscan 2.8 and tried it also with the same results.

Does the card show up in the Device Manager?  If so please post status including the error code number.

the card does show up in device manager with an error code 10. this device is either not present, not working properly or does not have all of the drivers installed. also, no resources assigned and no conflicts.

Sounds like your card maybe no good. Maybe try another card if you can hold of one. Any ASPIcam compliant card should do.

I will agree with brad in regards to the software, Picturescan does not work on Win98. The only times I have seen it working on win98 is when win95 has been previously installed, and in this case it eventually fails. Only use deskscan 2.8.
If there are no resources assigned to the Scsi card you might want to reinsert the scsi card into the mother board. The thin end of the cards tends to kick up occasionally giving partial connection.
Also you might want to try booting up in safe mode and removing the SCSI folder from the registery (START/RUN, type "regedit", click on the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE, "+" next to "Enum" and you will see the SCsi folder.) reboot into normal mode.
Have you tried to assign resources manually???   If no luck with this let me know.     ;-)

Hello Johno05.
tried the card in my other machine (pentium 133 w/win98) and no
problems. also had no problems with picturescan 2.2.

Hello Rat,
thanks for the suggestion about the scsi card connection. every time i screwed the card down, the front end was unseating just enough to lose the connection. sometimes hard to remember to check all the basics.
also, as a qualifier, hp picturescan 2.2 will and is running on windows 98 on my machine at this moment. i am running win98 2nd edition. this is not an upgrade version.
