I've installed W2k Server as a stand-alone, now I want it to be PDC (or the W2K equivalent).  We aren't using Active Directory, and currently all the clients will be Win95/98, but that will change.

Run DCpromo.exe on the server and go through the wizard.

DCpromo is installing ActiveDirectory, which we aren't planning on using (I mentioned that above).

If you want that server to act as a PDC (DC) it is going to install AD, even if you don't use it.  You can make it a participant in the network without making it a PDC (DC) by running "Configure your Server" and set it up as a member server, rather than a standalone.  If you want it to participate in replication, however, it will need to be a DC.
