Structograms

What are they, and what are the advantages/disadvantages of using them.  What is the best way to draw them.

Thanx Rhys

What are structogram's? Whatfor are they created?

I assume it's a way to graphically describe something. Just like DataFlowcharts, ProgramFlowcharts, RelationshipDiagram, etc.

The main advantage is that (when every one knows the defenitions and the set of symbols used) the problem is defined within a defined set of drawings, thus enabling faster and better discussion about the pro's and con's of a certain chosen solution.
Also the gaining insight in the described process/structure is faster as "one picture says more than a thousand words"

The disadvantage is the extra time needed to draw them and possible miscommunications with people that use a different set of definitions and/or symbols.

To make a comparison with real-estate, without a drawing it's nearly impossible to explain how a new house will gone a look like. And every body prefers a 3D look instead of the commonly used 2D version.
