Integrate reports and HTML

Hi there,

I'm looking for a tool that is essentially a report writer that produces as its output as HTML web pages rather than traditional reports. The web pages would preferably be static HTML rather than ASP. The product needs to be server based rather than a desktop tool so that I can hide complexity from the user and just present them with a web page where they enter the report parameters, press "go" and this tool goes away and produces the HTML.

MS-Access 97 does a fairly good job of this, but I would like to have a little more control over the appearance of the report - as it seems that Access can only save queries as ASP, reports are stuck in static HTML, and as such are not easily invoked from a web instruction inorder to produce current data.

I'm sure that there are lots of software around that does this, but would like some starting point.

Its ok if the product is commercial.

The platforms I have to work with are a choice of unix or NT.

well some application servers do conversion on the fly from docs to HTML.

My company uses a software made by OpenText called LiveLink that does conversion of PPT, DOC, PDF, etc to HTML on the fly and supports searching of those docs.

The tool needs to generate HTML which produces a report from the contents of a database (in this case an Informix db on a Sun Solaris).
