If the scan bed is showing all black and you are not scanning a black piece of paper then your scanner has a hardware issue. Contact HP in regards to a replacement if your scanner is still under warranty.   :-(

thanks I called HP about this and they are sending someone to collect the scanner and have it repaired (apparently they do not have a replacement policy!)

I think replacement or repair is dependent on which country you are in and actual machinery to realign the carriege assembly. Where I am it is replacement for this particular model. Try not to brack the new one!!!!  LOL
Happy scanning TheRat   ;-)

Thanks for the feedback. The scanner was taken for repairs today, hopefully it will be returned within 10 days, and working again.
