Setting FILEVERSION key in resource

How can I get and set the version info resource keys from within my source code?
I am #define(ing) the version number for use in my About dialog etc. and want to also set the version resource key. On the other hand, I could forget the #define and use just the resource, either way I need to get the version as a string.
