HP Scanjet 5300C not working with parallel connection

I have a new HP Scanjet 5300C. I have connected this scanner to the parallel port of my PC. However the software of HP does not find the scanner: it says that the scanner is not available. I checked all possible solutions in the troubleshouting page of HP, but nothings seems to solve the problem:
like setting the parallel port to ECP or EPP, removing the printer. I have windows 95 on my computer. Can you give me some help?

Is your bios set to 'plug and play os' ?
If so, (or not) try to change the setting.
Try the scanner on another pc, If not working there, it might be broken.
Then it's time to claim your guarantee.

My system is plug and play, so I will certainly try the scanner on a other PC. Thank you for your advise and I will keep you informed.

I tried another PC, and the scanner works with the parallel cable. So it has something to do with my PC. So I decided to install a USB card on my PC and install windows 98. This has taken some time, but everything works oke now.

So what the real problem was I don't know, but evething works oke with USB.
