I am afraid you just have a very bad modem. The HSP56 is a soft modem which basically means it is integrated into your motherboard. It slows down your computer, but only cost a couple of £/$ and is the current vogue modem for unscrupulous PC manufacturers who want to save money by supplying you with useless hardware while marketing their machines as fully multimedia.

I can't suggest anything to you except buy a new modem.

Check this sight to give you an idea of what other consumers think of this modem:

I have the same problems with connection speeds at 14k and constant disconnecting since I sent my PC back to Time Computers to repair a printing fault and they ended up changing most of the components in my machine including a perfectly working modem which constantly connected at a perfect 57k! I am currently pursuing the company for reparations as as far am I am concerned they have stolen my modem & God knows what else.

Sorry I can't help any better than this.
