Have you contacted Netscape's online support and asked them about the problem?  I doubt you'll get any help from Microsoft.  Their TechNet/Knowledge Base contains a scant 3 entries for W2K related to Netscape, most of which say that "Microsoft has acknowledged it as a problem" but really don't offer any solution.

I don't suppose just living with IE5 is an option?

You might also want to try installing the Netscape 6 beta to see if it might be a problem they've since fixed.

Netscape 6/6.0b1 seems a little more stable.the java lock [i suspect]doesen't occur as often.it still does,:[
but the error is logged and the application shuts it self down .no lock up. the error is the same and does NOT affect IE5 proformance.
microsoft and netscape online help were a total waste of time.

Have you run all the critical updates from Microsoft's Windows Update site?

Is there any particular site or sites that you're going to that cause this problem?  Netscape treats code a lot differently than IE and is a lot less forgiving of programming mistakes.  Could it be that there are a few certain sites that are causing this problem?

No,it doesen't matter which sites you go to.  eg. Netscape's default page loads no problem off a fresh install, ever page you go to will load.reboot the machine[i have to ever now and again] and its locking up,just netscape.
running Qubecity/NetQuest V 2.0.0.4p now along with IE5 with absolutely NO problems but i'd really like netscape  to work.

Have you installed Netscape on any other machines with a similar build (Advanced Server, same software)?

I doubt that a problem that serious regarding Netscape and Win2000 would go unnoticed and undocumented.  What other software are you running on this server?  Have you tried swapping in different memory or a different processor?

One other thing you might want to try is this: reset the page file.  Zero it out and apply the changes, then reset it back to the size you need it, or better yet, move it to a different partition.  I have seen rather odd application errors and such from a corrupt page file or swap file.  Worth a shot.

"What other software are you running on this server? " that was a good ?.so i decided to install netscape first then all my other programs one by one to see if any caused a conflict.[i usally start with a firewall, antivirus, diskeeper etc.]
Norton Antivirus 7.0 corprate edition for w2k server appears to be the problem program.why ,i don't know.still waiting to hear from Symantec about that.
A trial edition from Network associates that i installed to replace Nortons works great and everything is running smoothly.thanx's for the idea,i guess the points are yours.
