Archiving System On Unix Using C language

Does anybody know how to create or programme a simple script on UNIX about archiving files using C language. I have this difficulty archiving my files since I am used to WinZip in Windows systems. Somebody please help me !!!

Unix has several nice utilities for archiving. Try these commands:

compress
pack (obsolote; may not be available on your unix)
tar (archives but does not compress)
cpio (same)

Depending on which Unix version you have, you may even have gzip or zip commands, which are compatible with the zip files created by WinZip.

Finally, full C code is available (freeware) for WinZip compatible zipping. But do you really need it? I can search the URL and let you know later.

Forgot to say,
because these readymade commands already exist, it is unlikely that you need to do any programming in C to do archiving.

To see how these commands work, you can see the online manual on unix with commands like:

man compress
man cpio

etc.
