I'm new to Flash and am attempting my first full site.
I have a text box with a "bulleted" list of items.  I would like each item to link to a different scene.
I assume I have to make the text box a button, but how do I make ONLY SELECTED TEXT link??
I have an idea that I will have to make each line an individual button, but this will be tedious when I might want to make only ONE WORD the link, as I can in HTML.

hello -

in order for anything in flash to be active - meaning a link or have a go to action - it must be made into a button. i know it sounds tedious - it's not HTML - but it's true.

if you have something that you'd like to attach an action to, it must be first made into a button. the easiest way to accomplish this is to select the text and choose insert > convert to symbol. once you do this, choose behavior > button. click ok. then, doubleclick on the newly made text button on the stage and add your action.

another approach would be to make an invisible button that can be reused for each text link. the button can sit above or below the text and the user won't know the difference. an invisible button is a button that has no "up" state, but does have a "hit" state.

Thanks 68k...that is exactly what I needed to know!

To summarize, I can use as much text on a page as I want, and simply create an invisible button in an upper layer and place it over any text I choose.
