I have a Hitachi VisionBook Plus 4000 (4360) with a new Kingston pcmcia network card. After the card was installed, I could not access my scanner or zip drive through the parallel port, though printing is still working properly.

Check the IRQs and memory range that the PCMCIA card is using.  If that is still ok then try changing the parallel port mode to standard from bidirectional.
