Alias for server

Is there any way to assign an alias name to a Domino server that will
connect from a notes client (in 5.0)? I am trying to connect users
over IP from there workstations using a second IP address and Virtual
Server Name. It works fine from a browser, but from the client I get
the TCP error that I'm trying to connect to a server with a different
name. Any ideas would be appreciated.
1 Solution
Two solutions IIRC.

Quick and Dirty Fix:
Stick the IP address and the name in the hosts file on the client
(c:\windows\hosts under windows)

Proper Solution:
Edit the location document in the notes client to include the ip address as a pass through server.

we have this situation here, because or server has an nt name (server29) but also a notes name (dev1/grattan_plc/uk) if you just try and connect to dev1 you get the tried to connect to dev1 but got server29 instead (or is it the other way round?)
Hope this helps,

If I remember correctly you need to add a connection document to your PNAB which includes the server name and IP-address (or DNS-entry if available).
I use a connection document for every server I connect to, because the notes name and the NT-name are never the same in our setup.
