IIS - Max URL Length?

HI,

I was trying to access a URL which had 247 characters in it.

Almost every time (NOTE - NOT Everytime) I tried to access it, it brought down IIS on my server.

Any idea why this happened?

After reducing the URL length by moving my html files into a higher directory it worked fine.

1. Is there a max length for a URL in IIS?
2. Why did the problem above occur most of the times and NOT everytime if there is a max limit?

Thanks,
Pranu

I believe the standard Max length is 256 chars.

IIS is known to have a threshold of 8K.
