HP LaserJet 4L error message

My HP 4L started giving erroneous "Out of Paper" messages in the middle of a print job. When this happens I just have to open and close the paper tray to resume printing ... until the next error message, and so on. The lower the paper stack in the paper tray, the more often the error message. It is like some internal sensor misbehaves. Is there anything I can do myself short of carrying the printer to the local HP service center?

feed tires need to be changed or cleaned. Cleaning will probably work for a short time. Use something like windex to clean the tires. Don't use acohol. It dries the rubber and makes it not last as long.

How do I get to the feed tires?

Emanuel
I would contact any local computer store that sells and services HP printers.

What I meant was, How can I myself do the cleaning job . Where are those tires located, are they accessible without any special tools.

Thanks
