Vantive is a power full Bug Tracking System as you said. It can be used as multi site (Different Physical locations) and users can be given permissions depending on their role in the Vantive System.
It is developed by Vantive Corporation, USA.

Uses :
1. Each bug you enter will be given an Id and Status that is the single id with which you can verify your bug status.

2. When you give login permissions to users you have to identify them as what is their role, depending on which he will have restrictions in his veiw.

3. Once the Help Desk operators enters the bug, it will be automatically comes to the next level users, i.e Analyser suppose, There is no manual you have to put anywhere in tracking the status of the bug,

4. Once it goes to he may analyse the bug and he can ask developer to fix it or ask customer for more feedback.

5. Depending on each event it escalates to the right people identified as their disignation based.

6. It escalates automatically into Right Vantive INboxes and from there he/she takes care of the problem.

7. You can set the system in such a way that if help desk operator did not get the reply within some limited time then it reappears in his Inbox and will be sent as reminer.

8. Each problem will have different status like Open-Analysing, Open-FeedbackNeeded, Open-developing, Open-Duplicate, Closed-Ruledout, Closed-Fixed, Closed-Duplicate etc.

9. There are options in the system, with which we can search on particular key words operator enters and know whether this is a dulicate problem and fix already available or still under analyse etc.

10. The severity level of the bug can be given by Customer, as Trivial, Non Trivial, Show Shopper, Critical, non Critical, based on which you can set how much time it should take.

Overall it is a very good tracking system and good for big organisations where product development goes. they can well track the bugs using it.
