I would just use WININET.DLL--it handles HTTPS just fine.

As an extension to the posted comment.
You should try using WinInet library (available from Microsoft). they have very simple interface, which can be used both for HTTP and HTTPS (seamlessly). All MFC HTTP Classes are based on this implementation, i.e. it is stable and working.

An extension?  How did your "answer" provide any more information than I did?  As far as I can tell, you're just poaching.

Here is more of an answer but I am not looking for points but rather more insight from mikeblas.

From the MS KB:

Using the code example HTTP connections work without error.  When specifing INTERNET_FLAG_SECURE and INTERNET_DEFAULT_HTTPS_PORT as specified the application hangs on execution.  Anyone have a code snippet or see what is wrong with this KB articles code?

email jenkins_pete@hotmail.com if needed.

The code is incomplete, but what it shows is not incorrect.
