Data Unrecoverable
Hi, what kind of utilites are out there they can complete erase all data from a hard drive and make it unrecoverable, I mean not just lowlevel frommat I want to make it so it writes over and over and over again with random bytes numbers ETC!! Thanks

are you sure that will make all data completely unrecoverable, and what other utilites are there?
What is the make of your HD?
Some have software to overwrite the data with "0"
For example:
Utility used to erase / format Quantum ATA (IDE) disk drives. This utility will COMPLETELY ERASE all data on the drive. Useful to eliminate partitions, user data files and stubborn virus programs. Please download and read the user guide prior to using this program.

Well, I have a question - - is this to throw a drive away and make sure the data is gone - - or reinstall of some sort.
If it it sthe first - a really big magnet will do the trick!

Well, thats what I heard a really big magnet will do the trick but will that kill the Hard Drive???

FYI - - what I do in an environment where there is sensitive data.
Disassemble the hard drive to get at the platter, 2 minutes- - take a strong electro-magnet across the surface, 15 seconds - - scratch the surface of the drive, 10 to 1000 seconds depending on my frustration level - - 2 Pliers and snap the drive, 20 seconds - - feel really really good.
