How to record my old LP's

I have a lot of old LP records and I want to load them into my iMac DV, so I can burn the good song later on CD.
1. What (software) do I need to record them?
2. Is there software to improve the LP quality (remove background noise, etc.)?
3. What is the format they should be recorded in?

Software: Macromedia's SoundEdit 16 is perfect if you can find it. You should be able to get it from macromedia's web page. As far as FREE things you can use Coaster which is available from www.versiontracker.com

Quality Improvement: Yes you can remove the hisses and pops with software called RayGun which is made by Arboretum and is also available from www.versiontracker.com though its not free. You wont find any free software to thoroughly clean up audio.

Format: You should always use AIFF if you want the best quality. From aiff you can encode to MP3 (quality loss) or go straight to CD. AIFF is what you would burn to a CD to et an Audio cd.
