My application is created with VB6 Enterprise, Service Pack 3.  I use the Data Environment and Data Report Designers in the application.  The app works fine for me but the user receives error #429, "Can't create object" when she tries to launch the report.  The application was installed using InstallShield.  All DLL's were successfully registered.

Any ideas?

If you installed on win95 or 98, have you installed DCOM98.exe prior to your application setup?

Have you installed MDAC_TYP.exe?

No, I did not install DCOM98.exe nor did I install MDAC_TYP.exe prior to my application setup.

There has been a new situation.  The user tried to uninstall the application using the Control Panel.  The uninstall didn't run smoothly.  Now when the system starts up, she receives the following message:

COMDLG32.DLL file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL;645.

I'll up the points from 100 to 200 if you can resolve these related issues.

Try reinstalling your app. But before, execute DCOM98.EXE (if running W95/98) and MDAC_TYP.EXE. This should correct both problems.

Melvin,
We have tried to hammer the data report into what we wanted it to do, but found that a small investment in ActiveReports solved all of our problems. FYI, I have no interest in ActiveReports except that the product gives us complete customization. Good Luck.
