Currently trying to build an animated Graphic with Flash 4(or Freehand 9) whichever works best.  We can motion tween, shape/color tween etc and are able to achieve "close" to what we need but far from perfect.  Ours seems to "meld" as opposed to "rotate".

We need to have a "gold badge" rotate whereby it changes into a "red Maple leaf" at 180 degrees and back into the bage at 360 degrees.

Any ideas/tricks to make this easy?

Try to get yourself a copy of Swift 3D.  Since Flash does not have 3D support by itself, you can do your motion and tweening of a 3D graphic in Swift 3D.  It will create each frame of the rotation for you which can easily be inmported into Flash.

creat two symbols on e of the leaf and another of the badge.

now create seven blank key frames.

In the frame number one put the badge symbol in frame number two put the badge symbol and scale it horizontally so that it almost looks like vertical line. In frame three and four put the leaf symbol. In frame three scale the leaf horizontally so that it's almost looks like vertical line.
then go to frame five and copy paste the symbol at framethree into frame five. then go to frame six and copy paste the symbol at frame two and lastly go to frame seven and copy paste the symbol at frame one.

The increase the gap between the frames by atlest 10 frames. and then add motion tween to all of them.

Then you have what you are looking for.
