ColdFusion is:
- A powerful tool for creating and serving up dynamic websites (sites whose content is typically provided by a database), as opposed to static HTML pages.
- A package of two halves: ColdFusion Server serves and administers pages and sites, whereas ColdFusion Studio is the development package used to create and modify sites
- Expensive!!  You'll need at least £5000 to get kitted out with CFServer and CFStudio.
- Having said that, it's fairly easy to learn, with tag-based coding, and several decent 'wizards' to help you on your way.  It is considered by some programmers to be a 'soft option' for these reasons, but I assure you it's a great tool to use, and very popular too.
- The core skills you'll need to code in ColdFusion are: HTML, SQL, and Javascript.  HTML for laying out your pages, SQL for interacting with one or more databases, and Javascript for making your pages do interesting things!  CF also supports browser-specific languages like VBScript, too.
- To learn more, first visit www.allaire.com, as they made the product.  Then check out www.coldfusion.com, cfmasters.com...there's loads out there, so use a search engine for more.

Hope this helps.

techy6,
Are you saying 5000 British pounds!?  Here in the US you can get CF Server for around $1000 and the studio for around $200.  I'm not saying that makes Cold Fusion inexpensive, but you guys in the UK must be getting ripped off or something!
