HP ScanJet Scanners - Win95/3.1x, No Icons Created During the Installation of the HP Scanning Software
ISSUE: When installing the scanning software, the program group and the icons are not created.

SOLUTION: To manually create program group and icons in Windows 95:

Choose Start.
Select Setting.
Select Taskbar
Select the Start Menu Programs tab.
Choose Add.
Select Browse
Select ScanJet or DeskJet (depending on which software package you have.
Select the ScanJet or DeskJet executable
example: C:\Scnjet\Precisionscan\hppscan.exe
Select Next
Select new folder.
Type in folder name.
Select Next.
Type a new name for the shortcut.
Select Finish.
Choose OK.
To manually create program group and icons in Windows 3.x:

Select File at the top of Program Manager.
Select New.
Select Program Group and choose OK.
Enter the name for the new group (HP Scanning Software, etc....) and choose OK.
Select File at the top of Program Manager.
Select New.
Choose Program Item and select OK.
Select Browse and double-click the appropriate folder. (for example, DeskScan or ScanJet)
Select the program file and choose OK.
Repeat steps 6-10 for all program icons desired.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: The executable files must be present on the hard drive in order for this to work.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY: The icons may not have been created due to a "shell" running over the top of Windows default such as Norton Desktop or the maximum number of Groups/Icons have been reached. If this is the case, then the icons will have to be added to an existing group or a group must be deleted to allow new groups to be created. (This will typically happen only in Windows 3.1x).

NOTE: The HP ScanJet Plus scanner is only supported at the HP Customer Care Online Web site, Click here to visit our Web site.
HP no longer provides software or hardware support for the HP ScanJet Plus scanner.

Identify what memory region and interrupt the switches and jumpers on your interface card are set to. Consult the documentation that came with your scanner to find out how to do this.
Copy HPSJCLAS.DLL to the Win 95 System directory and SCANJET.INF to the Win 95 INF directory.
Use "Add New Hardware" in the Control Panel to add your scanner and interface card.
Select "No" when Windows 95 ask if you want it to search for new hardware.
Select "Other devices" as the hardware type.
Push the "Have Disk...." button when asked to identify the manufacturer and model for your new hardware.
Select "HP ScanJet-Plus" as the model for your new hardware.
Windows 95 will display which resources it plans to use for your new hardware. If those do not match the resources your card is set to, do not allow your computer to be shut down. Instead, go to the "Device Manager" tab in "System" in the control panel and modify the resources allocated for the "HP ScanJet Plus" to match the card's settings.
Turn off the computer. If the card is not already physically in the computer, insert it now. Connect the scanner to the card's connector. Turn on the computer.
Your drivers are now installed. Use "Scanner Test" to test the installation.
