My computer does not want to shut down using the start button. The monitor does turn of and a red light in the computer but a green light stays on.

Hi apinon1,
if there is no softwareproblem I'm sure you have a AT-computer and not a ATX-computer. Only ATX-computers switch off automatically. You can recognize the difference if your power switch is a real on/off-switch or is it just a on/off-button.

You have a software problem if you don't see at the screen "now it is save to turn off your computer" on an AT-computer.
